Title: High-pressure plasma research at POSTECH

Time: 16:00 - 17:00am, April 30, Thursday
Place: Conference room 201, Building 6, HPSTAR (Shanghai)
Host: Dr. Duckyoung Kim

Abstract:

Atmospheric plasma discharge technologies are rapidly developing in numerous fields such as biomedical treatment, agriculture, chemical synthesis, environmental cleanupand surface treatment where the use of conventional low pressure plasmas is inadequate. Despite the significant success in applications, less is well known about the fundamental physical and chemical properties of the atmospheric plasmas, which bars further development in much broader area.

This talk reviews the research program at POSTECH on atmospheric plasmas based on an efficient microwave discharge technology and a suite of advanced optical and microwave diagnostics which have been derived from the experience in high-temperature plasma experiments. Scalability to wider (higher) pressure discharge is expected to open up new regimes of plasma research such as mode conversion of surface plasma waves and poly-atomic hydrogen chemistry.
